Bakhtiari bag

We have been lucky enough to travel to Iran. There, we met the Bakhtiari nomads and fell in love with their handmade products. They made these bags specially for us. They can be used as handbags, to keep an iPad...

The Bakhtiari nomads of Iran are indigenous people who've lived in this culturally rich country for more than 10000 years, living in the highlands of Zagros mountains.

We came across Bakhtiari women's admirable art, specifically handmade chogha bags. It is a traditional black and white design, used primarily in their men's outfit design. Incorporating a combination of black and white stripes, with the whites predominating the design, chogha is a representation of life itself; of the joys and sorrows; of the highs and the lows. It is a reminder of the fluctuations of life and the final victory of light over darkness.

Being created almost exclusively by nomad women, chogha bags are not only the carrier of the buyer's stuff, they are also the carrier of a higher traditional philosophy and wisdom.

Being a means of artistic expression and empowerment for nomad women of Iran, chogha bags are as classically authentic and modernly fashionable as one might wish.
